The topic of the Ph.D. scholarship is probabilistic numerical geotechnical seismic site response analysis.
The research work will be conducted mainly in Florence. The scholarship will include a period of at least 6 months outside Italy, at an academic Institution to be selected. While in Florence, the candidate will also be supported technically and logistically by Georisk Engineering S.r.l., an academic spin-off of the University of Florence.
The scholarship would begin in the Autumn of 2023. Applications will open at the beginning of May and close one month later, with online interviews to shortlisted candidates occurring in July. The exact dates will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Candidatures are welcome from highly motivated researchers who:
- hold (or will obtain by the Autumn of 2023) an undergraduate degree in geotechnical engineering
- have (preferably) demonstrable experience or a strong interest in statistical and probabilistic theory, especially with respect to Bayesian approaches, and probabilistic geotechnics
- have (preferably) demonstrable experience in geotechnical site response analysis
- are highly competent (or willing to become so) in the coding of Python routines
- are highly competent (or willing to become so) in the use of the free OpenSees software for numerical geotechnical analysis
- are capable of autonomously conducting research and drafting research papers in English
