Programme Overview

The Department of Civil Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki has organized and implements since the academic year 1998-1999 a Master of Science Programme (MSc) on “Earthquake Design of Engineering Projects”, which in 2016 evolved and was renamed to “Sustainable Design of Technical Projects against Earthquake and other natural hazards” (ASTE) with a clear professional orientation and aiming at the rapid specialization of Civil Engineers in the technology of protection of the built environment from earthquakes and other natural hazards.

The objective of the MSc ASTE is mainly the specialisation in seismic engineering and risk reduction against earthquake and other natural hazards, such as floods and landslides, with the ultimate goal of sustainable development.

The aim of the MSc ASTE is the integrated specialization and training of civil engineers in the design of civil engineering projects against natural hazards, with a focus on seismic risk, which is particularly important in Greece.

The learning outcomes and qualifications of those who successfully completed the MSc are as follows: The holders of the MSc ASTE acquire specialized knowledge in the field of seismic engineering and seismic design of structures as well as in the related subjects of the design of structures against various natural hazards, which are always topical in Greece and abroad and are of particular interest to the construction industry, to which the graduates are invited to offer their services. At the same time, they are also areas of cutting-edge research in the science of civil engineering.

The MSc ASTE has a total duration of 18 months (3 semesters) of study and offers a total of 90 ECTS.
