VC Scholarships 2017 - Engineering

Faculty of Engineering and Science

Location: Medway campus

Salary: £14,533 per annum

Contract Type: Fixed Term - 3 years

The Faculty of Engineering and Science is delighted to be able to offer a number of PhD scholarships under the Vice Chancellor Scholarship scheme. The scholarships will be based in one of our Engineering departments: the Department of Engineering Science, or the Department of Applied Engineering and Management. The Faculty has a clear research plan and further details can be found athttp://www2.gre.ac.uk/about/faculty/engsci/research/research-themes. Candidates are strongly encouraged to read through the additional information on the research themes before applying.

Our Engineering research is focused around 9 principal themes:

·         Future technology and the Internet of Things

·         Mathematical modelling for engineering

·         Designing for sustainability

·         Next generation materials

·         Innovative and smart structures

·         Materials handling and transport

·         Communications

·         Engineering enterprise

Design, manufacturing and innovative products

We are looking for candidates to apply with a background in any area of engineering, design or technology-related disciplines. Candidates should have, or expect to achieve, a strong undergraduate degree (2:1 or above). Candidates with relevant Masters degrees or those with practical experience in research or industry are also encouraged to apply.

In addition, applications are encouraged to the following specific projects:

·         Predicting remaining lifetime of aging pipelines through structural health monitoring

·         Developing a novel technology for pneumatic conveying systems control

·         Powder flow tester software development and investigation of particle to bulk scale measurements

A tax-free bursary of £14,533 per year for 3 years is available to UK students, plus ‘Home’ University tuition fees of £4,195 will be paid and some travel expenses to attend appropriate international conferences and seminars will be available. Non-UK candidates are eligible to apply, but will be requested to pay for the difference between the ‘Home’ and ‘Overseas’ fees, currently £8,305.
